Valley Christian and San Jose
Earthquakes finalize deal 4/18
(4/18) Valley Christian High School has
entered into an agreement to lend it's facilities to the
San Jose Earthquakes of
Major League Soccer (MLS). The two
time MLS Cup Champions will play five reserve games on the same field
that is home to the Valley Christian Warriors.
Major League Soccer has begun a program in
the league that allows each team to carry 28 players in an effort to
allow more room for growth in US Soccer. The new program will allow
players who may not otherwise see time in professional games, to play
against the other reserves.
The depth of MLS will make these games very
exciting to watch. Many big names will be playing for the Quakes
reserves including Jon Conway, Dwayne DeRosario, Wes Hart, Tighe
Dombrowski, Ian Russell and Alejandro Moreno. In addition to the local
heroes, opposing teams will be represented by other MLS stars who may be
spending time with the reserves for whatever reason. The games will be
coached by the regular coaching staff.
The five game slate is as follows:
-
4/24 vs. Kansas City Wizards - 10 AM
-
5/15 vs. FC Dallas - 10 AM
-
6/5 vs. DC United - 10 AM
-
6/19 vs. Real Salt Lake - 10 AM
-
6/26 vs. L.A. Galaxy - 10 AM
Valley Christian Boys assistant coach
John Basanese on the deal: "We
strive to emulate a professional environment in our facilities, and we
feel honored that the Earthquakes organization recognizes this. I
couldn't be more excited to have these games on our fields, we're
looking forward to some great soccer!"
The games will be free of charge, and
spectators are welcome. All games will be played on the soccer field
unless otherwise noted. The games will be covered by the
vcsoccer.com website complete with photos.
If you do attend these games, we ask that
you please park your car below the soccer field out of respect for the
people who attend church services in the VC gym.
