Boys JV lose at home - Saturday, 12/11/04
Valley Christian 0, St. Ignatius 6
The Warriors boys
JV soccer team hosted the St. Ignatius Wildcats at Valley Christian
Saturday morning. The game got underway in thick fog with keepers barely
able to see the opposing goal. Throughout the game the fog slowly
lifted.
Injuries continue
to plague the VC Junior Varsity team. Midfielder David Yun is still
healing from a severely sprained ankle. Midfielder Jordan Pereira was
also out for a second game with an ankle injury, and leading scorer Ryan
Favre was hampered by an injured foot.
The Warriors began
the game with intense pressure on the SI goal, but were unable to put
one in. VC played with intensity, pressuring the Wildcats all over the
field. Slowly the momentum began to change and SI began to press forward
and take shots on the VC goal. Late in the first half SI put away a
goal, and managed a second just before the end of the half.
The Warriors
defense worked very hard, especially tenacious midfielder Josh
Rothernberg, to keep a high-powered S.I. offense away from the VC goal.
SI continued to fire shots on goal, putting away four more in the second
half before the game ended. Without sufficient ball control VC cleared
the ball but SI brought it right back as the Warrior’s continually fell
back to defend.
The younger VC team
(15 freshmen) played hard, especially on defense, but could not
sufficiently handle an older (6 juniors, 10 sophomores) and more
experienced SI team that played with confidence and precision.
The JV boys travel
to Mitty on Tuesday, and the match will likely be the toughest of the
year again the Monarchs (Mitty’s varsity is ranked 13th
nationally), with Yun and Pereira out.
