Season Outlook:
John, a licensed coach, is entering his
8th year of coaching Varsity Soccer at Valley Christian. His record
as coach is 57-50-25 record, including 35-34-15 in the WCAL.
John has coached the team to a W.C.A.L. League Championship, and three CCS
Playoff appearances.
In John's time at Valley Christian, the
program has sent over a dozen player to colleges on soccer scholarships.
Playing Career:
John played soccer for Valley Christian from 92-96, and won a
league championship with VC in '96. On the way to 9 varsity
letters, John was named to 7 All League teams, in three sports. In
soccer, he was the B.V.A.L.'s MVP his Junior and Senior years scoring 32
goals adding 22 assists in his high school career, a record that stood
until Jeff Coggan surpassed it in '06 (34 goals) under his tutelage.
He continued his soccer and football careers
at Azusa Pacific University, CA. At APU, John participated in the
National Championship tournament with the Nationally #2 ranked Cougars.
The APU football team, was ranked #16 in the nation in the NAIA.
Personal:
John was recently married to VC
basketball coach Anna Basanese. Anna and John reside in San Jose.
For his day job, John works at Barnes & Noble in the mobile device
group.
John
has also been an instructor for Cannon-Mulrooney Soccer Camps, and Mulrooney
Soccer Academy which includes instructors like Joe Cannon, Richard
Mulrooney, Craig Waibel, Landon Donovan, and many other Major League
Soccer stars.
John comes from a large family of 6
kids, three of which attended Valley Christian High School.
