VC 3 - 1 Lynbrook

The VC Boys JV Soccer team were keen to bounce back quick from their 3-0 defeat to Gilroy. Next up was the host team Lynbrook. Lynbrook too suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Branham; so both teams had
something to prove. The game got underway and VC started as they finished their first game, they came out aggressive and right from the start played good soccer. Lynbrook put some pressure on and had a
couple of chances, but Theo Matheou came up big between the sticks and kept the ball out of the VC net.

VC saw their diligent and creative play lead to chances. A couple fell to forward Aaron Hutton, who used his speed and strength to break onto goal and get a shot off. Other chances fell to Nick Reyes, George Fahmey, and Jake Joseph. VC were desperately searching for a goal to send them into the break and with 5 minutes to go in the 1st half a golden opportunity arose.

A freekick wide right was awarded to VC. Joseph stepped up to take it; he whipped a perfect ball into the box, away from the keeper and directly into
the path of Devin Rigg who made his run to the far post. The ball fell to Rigg's feet and without second thought Rigg put the ball home, scoring VC's first goal of the season and his first goal in a VC shirt. 1-0 VC.

Shortly after that the ref blew for halftime, leaving
VC very happy with the first half performance. The start of the second half saw some new faces on the pitch; Jacob Ruiz, Jordan Osuna, Sung Hyuck Choi, Devin Valdez, Taylor Perkins, and Matt Meyer all came into the game and showed what they could do. Meyer
was out muscling guys 3 times his size, Osuna and Choi controlled the midfield and created chances for Perkins and Valdez, and Ruiz played a solid defensive game.

Within the 1st 5 minutes of the start of the second half, a Lynbrook forward found himself in space in front of the VC goal and capitalized on a lack of concentration from the VC defense. 1-1.

Determined to make amends, VC came back firing on all
cylinders, creating even more chances than the 1st half, through Hutton, Reyes, Nelson, Plugg, Rigg, Fahmey, and Joseph. Hutton found himself one on one twice but failed to hit the target and he had a goal from a corner disallowed. But VC's break came 10 minutes from the end.

Joseph again lined up for a freekick. This time a little closer in and 25 yards out. Instead of crossing the ball Joseph went for goal, and boy did he go for it; Joseph struck the ball perfectly and it was soaring to goal. Just as Joseph and the whole VC team were about to celebrate a goal, the ball struck the crossbar!! The ball
fell down into the box and into the path of Fahmey who headed home VC's second goal. Fahmeys first goal and Josephs second assist. 2-1.

VC kept the pressure on and a quick release kick from Matheou found Fahmey's head who flicked the ball into the path of Hutton who sealed the game with a well deserved goal, passing the ball past the keeper into the side netting. 3-1 VC. Final

"It was an exciting game. The boys played well and got what they deserved. This was the first win of many this season." Coach Ronnie Jenkins
